By Hirohito D. Cadion

PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur, May 10 (PNA) -- More than 600 individuals from nearby Zamboanga Sibugay province are set to benefit in this year’s Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) free competency assessment.

The free competency assessment will be implemented nationwide starting this month until October this year.

TESDA-Zamboanga Sibugay Director Lorenzo Emanuel Guillermo said they are targeting 679 candidates from the province for the National Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Competency and Assessment and Certification (NATCAC) program.

Guillermo said the NATCAC program will be composed of trainers of private and public technical vocational institutions, including TESDA Technology Institutions, local government units, and other government agencies providing TVET programs and private enterprises with registered TVET programs.

Guillermo said also included in the NATCAC program are Department of Education trainers, public utility vehicle drivers, workers/industry practitioners/professional/career shifters who want to undergo competency assessment, returning Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), Filipino expatriates with relevant experience, and industry practitioners who are prospective competency assessors.

The other sectors also identified to be included were automotive, construction, metals and engineering, tourism, electronics and information and communications technology, agri-fishery, food processing, health and other social community development services, according to Guillermo.

He explained that the free competency assessment is the heart of the NATCAC program which is a synchronized conduct of assessment and certification in identified key qualifications.

He added the program is designed to promote industry acceptance and recognition of the value of certification in quality-assuring the competencies of their workers.

He said the program also seek to upgrade the qualification of existing workers, trainers, and assessors to a higher level of qualification and enhance their competitiveness and employability.
He said that Certificates of Competency (COC) or National Certificates (NC) will be issued to successful candidates.

He advised those interested to undergo the free competency assessment to submit self-assessment guide, three passport size pictures and duly accomplished application form to the nearest TESDA office or to identified accredited assessment centers. (PNA)
