PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur, May 12 (PNA)
-– The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has called on the barangay officials
to assist them by way of informing the public about the on-going registration
and validation of voters in this province.
Provincial Election Assistant Pilar D. Tindoc
made the call after they have observed low turnout of registrants as well as
the biometrics validation of voters.
Tindoc has noted that there were even zero
turnouts both for new voters’ registration and validation in some of this
province’ municipalities.
This province comprises one city and 26
municipalities clustered into two congressional districts.
Tindoc said that they have so far recorded
province-wide a total 867 individuals who registered and validated their
biometrics registration as of Sunday.
The registration of new voters and validation
of biometrics registration started last May 6.
Pagadian City Election Officer Dinah Sapong
said that 357 of the 867 who registered and validated the registration are from
this city.
Tindoc said that 88,115 representing 15 percent
of the 607,998 registered voters in this province are without biometric data.
Sapong said that this city,
which has a total of 126,686 registered voters, has 20,000 voters are without
