NCCA to hold visual arts festival in Pagadian City

PAGADIAN CITY - The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), National Committee for Visual Arts will showcase Philippine Visual Arts Festival in Pagadian City on Feb. 7 -11 in celebration of the National Arts Month.

In a media forum held last week at the Subanen Hall, Provincial Government Center, Barangay Dao this city, NCCA Deputy Executive Director Marlene Sanchez said this year’s festival theme is “Ani ng Sining” with its sub-theme, “Celebrating Icons.”

3 NPA KILLED, 3 HIGH POWERED FIREARMS RECOVERED AND 3 SOLDIERS WOUNDED IN AN ENCOUNTER

PAGADIAN CITY – Three members of the New people’s Army (NPA) were killed, and 3 high powered firearms were recovered by the government troops while 3 members of 14th Scout Ranger Company (14SRC) were wounded during the encounter recently at Sitio Maimbong, Brgy. Mati in the municipality of Tigbao, Zamboanga del Sur at about 2:45pm Wednesday, January 23, 2013.

The troops of the 4th Scout Ranger Battalion (4SRBN) under operational control of 102nd Infantry Brigade were on patrol when they chanced upon and engaged more or less eighty (80) NPAs at Sitio Maimbong, Brgy. Mati of said municipality, Col Gerardo Barrientos Jr, the Commander of the 102nd Infantry Brigade in his report to the headquarters of the 1st Infantry (Tabak) Division.

PAGADIAN CITY – A total of 7 soldiers from the team of 12th Scout Ranger Company under the 4th Scout Ranger Battalion, based in Brgy Bohe Suyak, Ungkaya Pukan, Basilan Province were wounded after they were waylaid by a group of lawless elements believed to be members of Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG).

The said incident happened at the junction of Sitio Amaloy in Brgy Bohe Pahu of said municipality when the team was on its way back to camp at about 7:40 in the morning of Tuesday, January 22, 2013.

The government troops fired back to the attackers causing the enemies to withdraw after twenty (20) minutes exchange of fires. The incident wounded at least seven soldiers and undetermined numbers from the ASG as of this report.

Homemade bomb exploded along the side walk in front of Mhlullier in Mercado Street corner Quezon Avenue, Iligan City at 10:00 AM this morning, January 21, 2013.
 
Initial report from Jun Enriquez of Civil Society Organization-Forum for Peace (CSO-FP) Iligan said, the glass door of the pawnshop was damaged including the two vehicles, one owned by Philippine Drugs Enforcement Agency (PDEA) agent Jun Cabahug. Accordingly, Jun Cabahug was believed to be the target of the unknown suspect.

PAGADIAN CITY – The newly appointed Officer in Charge (OIC) Provincial Director (PD) of the Zamboanga del Sur Police Provincial Office (ZSPPO) wilkl formally assumed command today January 14, 2013 to replaced OIC PD P/Senior Supt. Romeo Uy after relieved for his new assignment.

Si P/SSupt Abellar arrived ZSPPO Camp Abelon on Saturday January 12 after he received his designation as OIC PD in ZSPPO from the newly assumed Regional Director P/CSupt Juanito B. VaƱo,Jr. of Police Regional Office 9.

Negotiating parties note zero armed encounter between GPH, MILF in 2012


DAVAO DEL NORTE—The Coordinating Committee on the Cessation of Hostilities (CCCH) of the Government of the Philippines (GPH) and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) has noted a zero incident of armed encounter between the government and MILF forces in 2012.

The GPH and MILF CCCH, popularly known as the ceasefire committee, posted the report at the MILF's luwaran.com website on New Year's Day.

"Year 2012 is indeed a historic year for the current GPH-MILF Peace Process. It is the only year that not a single armed encounter between government and MILF forces have occurred," the committee's Secretariat reported.

Last October 15, 2012, the peace negotiating panels of the government and MILF through the assistance of the Malaysian Third Party Facilitator signed the historic GPH-MILF Framework Agreement on the Bangsamoro.

Maj. Carlos Sol Jr., GPH CCCH secretariat head, noted that "the effectiveness of the ceasefire mechanisms and strong cooperation and partnership between the government and MILF forces attributed the zero armed encounters for 2012."

"The signing of the Framework Agreement had significantly improved and sustained the adherence and support to the ceasefire particularly among the ground commanders of the government and MILF and the local government units," he added.

M/Gen Datuk Abdul Rahim, IMT Head of Mission, commended the GPH-MILF CCCH and urged both parties to keep the zero incidents in 2013.

"We should maintain the stable situation on the ground. The implementation of the Framework Agreement necessitates conducive environment for its greater success," he said.
Japan, Indonesia, Norway and the European Union were very significant in the successful realization of the Framework Agreement on the Bangsamoro.

President Aquino III witnessed the signing of the Framework Agreement along with Malaysian Prime Minister Dato' Sri Mohd Najib bin Tun Haji Abdul Razak and MILF Chairman Al Haj Murad Ebrahim. PNA

Estimated to 10,000 people attended the opening of Paskuhan 2012 here

PAGADIAN CITY - MAYOR  Sammy Co greeted an estimated 10,000 crowd who attended the Paskuhan 2012 celebration last Saturday, December 8 at Plaza Luz.  

Residents started flocking in the area as early as 6:00pm to get a nice view of the 100 feet Christmas Tree and other Christmas decors.  

Despite the unfortunate fate that hit the city the people have still the reason to celebrate the Christmas, Co said, as a saying goes, God has the reason to all events that fall to everyone.
