PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur, May 30 (PNA)
-– The Department of Education (DepEd) announced that all is set for the
opening of classes on June 2 for the school year 2014-2015 in this city.
City Schools Division officer-in-charge
Superintendent Felix Romy Triambulo said Friday they have hired new teachers to
solve the problem on the shortage of teaching staffs in the different schools.
Triambulo said they have hired additional 78
new teachers to be assigned in the different schools both in the elementary and
secondary levels.
Triambulo said that 39 of the 78 newly-hired
teachers will be assigned in the pre-school and elementary levels while the
remaining 39 for the secondary.
Triambulo has an existing teaching staff
comprising of 750 in the elementary and 400 in the secondary levels.
The local schools division has a total of 60
public elementary and 19 secondary schools located in this city’s 54 barangays.
City School Division Administrative Officer
David Lingue said the number of enrollees in the elementary level is set to
reach over 27,000 students and more than 12,000 in the secondary level.
Lingue said they will accept enrollment of
students to include transferees until August 30 this year.
Triambulo said that regular classes, as
scheduled, will immediately start on June 2 both in elementary and secondary
schools in this city.
Triambulo said the classrooms in all of the
local schools are ready to be used since all repairs and other preparations
were completed during the conduct of the National Schools Maintenance Week or
the “Brigada Eskwela.”
The Brigada Eskwela is a
nationwide voluntary effort of teachers, parents, students, community members,
and other organizations to do minor repairs and clean-ups on their schools in
preparation for the start of the school year. (PNA)
