GUIPOS, Zamboanga del Sur—Members of the Bayanihan Teams Operations or
BTO was ambushed believed to be members of the New People’s Army in Barangay
Datagan, this town last July 5 in the morning.
The team leader of the 53rd Infantry Battalion Sgt. Danilo
Saavedra died in the ambush.
A brief firefight ensued resulting to undetermined number of casualties
on the side of the rebels.
The dead body of Saavedra was brought to the battalion headquarters
based in this town.
The rebels withdrew heading towards Mt. Simeon in Barangay Dumalian,
San Miguel in this province.
