Lugus Town Mayor pushes Development

SULU—Mayor Al-Zhudurie “Den” Asmadun of Lugus town, this province pushed livelihood program on fishing, agal-agal (seaweed) and coconut farming for a sustainable income of the residents.

The mayor disclosed this statement before reporters from Zamboanga City and Pagadian City who visited the place last July 10.

The municipality has  seventeen barangays such as Lugus proper, Huwit huwit, Basnonok, Tingkangan, Baslugus, Mangkallay, Alu duyong, Alu bus bus, Pait, Parian Kayawan, Laha, Sibul, Gapas Rugasan, Mantan, Larap, Kutah Parang, Gapas Tubig Tuwak. 

Focusing his term to development, Asmadun said his municipality is rich in natural resources and marine products which has to be utilized turning them into cash.  

“We are implementing the livelihood program to address poverty problems by enhancing the residents’ income for their daily need,” said Asmadun.

He said he received Black Grand from the Special Zone of Peace Development or ZOPAD for the school repair and for constructing of two-class-room building in Barangay Basnonok. The place has only kinder school.

The municipality has enough school building in places like in Lugus proper, barangay Alu duyung, Tampulan, Tingkangan and more kinder pupils and high school students, Asmadun told reporters.

However, he said the municipality lacks class room teacher which they are compelled to hire volunteer teachers to teach. These volunteer teachers are locally paid.

On the other hand, the mayor said they have more than three hundred PhilHealth beneficiaries in the barangays which the health of the residents are monitored by barangay health workers.

Asmadun said during the meeting with Sulu Governor Abdur Sakur Tan, ARMM Governor  Mujib Hataman and DILG  Secretary Jessie Robredo in Davao City,  a MOA was signed for ARRM project and the municipality of Lugus granted a 10 million pesos for “Patubig Project.”

He said that the P10 million funds from Patubig Project was realized by an effort of the Sulu governor (Tan).

Asmadun expressed appreciation on the initiative of the national government and the effort of the province of Sulu  governor to help his town constructs water systems for potable water supply to residents.
